Report on the Shanghai Conference of the ICD-11 Field Studies Coordinating Group

eleventh revision of the World Health Organization’s International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD-11), the ICD-11 Field Studies Coordinating Group held a meeting at the Shanghai Mental Health Center of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine from 12 to 14 November 2013. Attendees at the meeting, which was jointly sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Shanghai Mental Health Center, included the following experts from the WHO: Shekhar Saxena (Director of the WHO Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse), Geoffrey M. Reed (WHO Senior Project Officer for the Revision of ICD-10 Mental and Behavioral Disorders), Vladimir Poznyak (Coordinator of the WHO Management of Substance Abuse programs) Maria Elena Medina-Mora, (Coordinator of field testing for ICD-11), and Oye Gureje (Deputy Coordinator of field testing for ICD-11). Experts from Shanghai who attended included Zeping Xiao (Vice-Director of the Shanghai Bureau of Health), Yifeng Xu (President of the Shanghai Mental Health Center) and Min Zhao (Vice-President of the Shanghai Mental Health Center). Also in attendance were members of the ICD-11 International Coordination Group from the United States of America, Spain, India, Japan, Lebanon and other countries. Staff members from the Shanghai Mental Health Center who attended included Sai Zuo (Deputy Director of the Administrative Office), Zhen Wang (Director of the Research Administration Office) and Jingjing Huang and Yunfei Dai (staff members of the Research Administration Office).
